Bankers Hours (a.k.a Will's Hours)

Background: One day we were explaining to our good friend Will the rules of Nine-Two-Five. At the end of the explanation, he asked why the Dolly reference. We mentioned the movie of course, and why it was called 9-2-5 (i.e. as people typically work 9am to 5pm each working day). This shocked Will, as in his current job (at an unnamed bank), he worked 10am to 4pm most days. We all got a good laugh with (or at?) Will, and created this game.

Number of Betting Rounds: 5

Draws/Deal: Typical 5 Card Draw (2 draws of 2 are normal)

Wild Cards: All 10s, 2s, and 4s are wild.

Other Rules / Notes:

1. If you don't have at least 4 of a kind, you likely won't win.

Nine Two Five

Background: To honour the hardest working lady, Dolly, the game 9-2-5 was created. This can be played as a 5-card or 7-card game. All 9s, 2s, and 5s are wild, a lot like Dolly.

Number of Betting Rounds: 3

Draws/Deal: Five cards are dealt out initially, then there are two drops of 2 cards. There is a betting round after the deal and after each drop round.

Wild Cards: All 9s, 2s, and 5s are wild..

Marlon Poker

Background: In an attempt to liven up the traditional 7 card stud game, this game was developed so the pot would continue to grow even if nobody raised. Named after one of the original knights of the poker table, Marlonious Funk. It is said that in the early days of this game, Marlon lost large sums of money by "unluckily" always getting the highest card.

Number of Betting Rounds: 5

Draws/Deal: Typical 7 Card Stud (1st deal = 2 down and 1 up, then the next 3 deals up, and finally last deal face down)

Wild Cards: None unless dealer calls.

Other Rules / Notes:

1. There is penalty of 50 cents for whomever has the highest card showing in EACH of the first 4 deals.

2. If you have the highest card showing you MUST pay penalty and can not fold until the beginning of the next round.

3. In the event there are 2 people with the highest card, both people pay the penalty.

4. If there are wild cards then anyone who gets the wild card automatically has the high card and must pay the penalty.

Roll Your Own Poker

Name of the Game: Roll Your Own Poker

Deal: 7 card deal (2 down, 4 up, 1 down)

Draws: 0 draws

Wild Cards: Dealers choice

Special Rules: The Roll Your Own Poker variant allows each player to decide what cards are showing in this seven card poker game. The initial deal of three cards are all down. Each player then reviews their cards, and once all decide which card to flip over, everyone does it at once. This is followed by a betting round. The same is done for the next three cards dealt. The final card is kept down.

Survivor Omaha

Name of the Game: Survivor Omaha

Deal: 4 cards to each player, and 5 community cards

Draws: 0 draws

Wild Cards: Little ones

Special Rules: 4 cards are dealt to each player face down. Then 5 cards are dealt to the community face down (4 are for play, and 1 is the eliminator). The community cards are flipped over 1 by 1 followed by betting. When the last "eliminator" card is flipped, it is used to remove one of the 4 cards from the community. The card closest numerically to the eliminator will be removed from the pool, leaving three cards in the community. The player must use 2 of the 4 cards from his cards to make a hand.

Variant: Rather than just playing a poker hand, you can make it a split pool with a poker hand and a spade hand. For each hand, players can chose which 2 of their 4 cards they use. Before cards are shown, each player will put a 0, 1, or 2 coins in their hands secretly to choice which pot they are playing for (0 for poker, 1 for spades, and 2 for both). Players compete for half the pot on the game type they chose. If a player picks both poker and spades, then they must win both pots to win, else they automatically lose both.

Let's Make a Deal

Name of the Game: Let's Make a Deal

Deal: 5 cards

Draws: 2 draws of 2 cards

Wild Cards: dealers choice

Special Rules: An extra hand is dealt at the beginning of the game. After players review their initial cards, they can chose to bid on the spare hand. The bid continues until no one else wants to top the last bid. That person then gets the cards and the bid collected goes to the pot. If no one wants the cards then they are discarded and the game continues as per a normal 5-card game.

Variant: An excellent variant is to make a pair of king's take the game. If two players have a pair of kings, the one with the king of spades takes the game. This makes the game more interesting as players will hold a king in hopes for a second one, even though it hurts their odds for the normal low hand.
